Virgin Atlantic’s Flying Taxis Will Change Everything – Future of Travel
Santa Cruz, CA, and London, UK, 17th March 2025 – Virgin Atlantic and Joby Aviation have teamed up to bring electric air taxis to the UK, promising a new era of fast, zero-emission travel. This partnership will launch Joby’s innovative air taxi service, connecting cities and airports with short-haul flights starting from Virgin Atlantic’s hubs at Heathrow and Manchester.
Joby’s electric air taxis are designed to carry a pilot and four passengers at speeds of up to 200 mph, offering a quiet and sustainable alternative to traditional transport. For instance, an 8-minute flight from Heathrow to Canary Wharf could replace an 80-minute car journey. Customers will be able to book these flights directly through Virgin Atlantic’s app and website.
Shai Weiss, CEO of Virgin Atlantic, expressed excitement about the collaboration: “As a leader in sustainability and with innovation firmly in our DNA, we are delighted to be partnering with Joby to bring short-haul, zero-emission flight to airports and cities throughout the UK. Our strategic partnership combines Joby’s expertise in design, engineering and technology with the power of Virgin Atlantic’s brand and award-winning customer experience.”
JoeBen Bevirt, Founder and CEO of Joby, shared his enthusiasm: “Virgin Atlantic’s commitment to delighting its customers reflects our experience with Delta, and we couldn’t imagine a better partner to work with in the UK. Together, we are committed to delivering faster options for mobility across the country.”
Joby’s aircraft uses six tilting propellers for vertical takeoff and landing, making it quieter than helicopters. With thousands of test flights completed worldwide, the company plans to build a network of landing locations across the UK. Pricing is expected to be similar to premium ride-sharing services.
This partnership marks a significant step toward sustainable travel in the UK, combining cutting-edge technology with exceptional customer service.
