Samsung’s 6G White Paper Redefines the Future of Mobile Networks
KOREA, 6th February 2025 – Samsung recently released a new white paper about 6G titled “AI-Native & Sustainable Communication.” The paper talks about how 6G will change the way we connect and communicate. It’s like a sneak peek into the future of technology, focusing on two big ideas: using artificial intelligence (AI) to make networks smarter and making sure these networks are good for the planet.
Charlie Zhang, a senior leader at Samsung Research, explained that the company is working hard on 6G research. He said,
“We are intensifying our 6G research efforts, focusing on AI-enabled communication technologies and sustainable networks. As the telecommunication industry accelerates 6G standardization this year, Samsung will develop technologies to align with market demands.”
6G’s Necessity?
The extreme usage of phones and internet t present, streaming videos, using AI apps, and connecting smart devices is a lot of data! 5G was a huge step forward, and 6G will make things better. It will speed it up and make networks more efficient, affordable, and energy-saving.
The white paper also talks about some amazing things 6G could make possible. For example, imagine putting on a pair of glasses and stepping into a virtual world that feels real. That’s what immersive extended reality (XR) could do—changing how we play games, learn, or even see a doctor. There’s also something called “digital twins,” which are like virtual copies of real things. These could let us monitor and control stuff from far away, like checking on a factory or even a city.
Another cool idea is “massive communication,” where tons of devices—like sensors, machines, and phones—can all connect at once. This could help create smart cities, homes, and factories. And with “ubiquitous connectivity,” even remote areas could get fast internet through satellites and high-altitude networks. Oh, and don’t forget fixed wireless access (FWA), which could replace traditional wired internet with wireless connections, making things faster and easier.
Samsung highlights four key features for 6G: AI-native systems, sustainable networks, ubiquitous coverage, and secure connections. Everything will be AI powered, making networks smarter and more efficient. Sustainability means using less energy and keeping costs low. Exhaustive coverage makes everyone can stay connected, no matter their location. And security? That’s super important, especially as AI gets more powerful.
The timeline for 6G is pretty ambitious. Research started in 2020, and the standards should be ready by 2030. Samsung is already leading the way, hosting events like the Silicon Valley Future Wireless Summit to explore how AI and telecom can work together. They’ve even shown off some cool AI-RAN technology, which has gotten a lot of attention from big companies.
Samsung is all in on 6G, and they’re working to make it faster, smarter, and greener!
