Say Goodbye to Apps: AI Agents Are Taking Over

Say Goodbye to Apps- AI Agents Are Taking Over

SAN FRANCISCO, FEBRUARY, 28th 2025 – Salesforce has made a considerable evolution in computer-human interaction with the introduction of autonomous AI agents that will serve as the new user interface, rendering applications obsolete.

This change seeks to improve effectiveness and productivity in both the business and consumer markets.

According to Adam Evans, the Executive Vice President and General Manager of AI at Salesforce,

“We are at the early stages of a widespread change where autonomous AI agents are going to be the new interface.”

Once this shift happens, the users of the system will be served by AI agents trained to perform certain tasks by retrieving the data and applications they require and managing them autonomously.

Previously, businesses relied on specific applications for multiple areas such as sales, marketing, service, or operations. Those days are now gone. The approach now enables users to merely instruct an AI Agent to perform a task, for example a sales rep wanting to prepare for a meeting no longer needs to pull together information from multiple systems.

This process now becomes far more efficient with AI agents, where an agent embedded into platforms such as Slack is able to gather helpful information, create briefing documents, and suggest relevant talking points without any action needed from the user.

It’s not like applications or the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) business model ever really went away; rather, AI agents performed as interface frontend that interacted with applications which still rendered data, business logic and workflow automation.

AI agents surface these services allowing complexity of dealing with information systems with various data, metadata, workflows and even applications from one platform to be simplified using large language models.

The technical framework includes 3 categories of agents that operate on a multi-tier system:

Primary (User-Facing) Agents:Users interact with these agents in Slack & Asana; they serve as an intuitive conversational interface for basic user interactions.

Orchestration Agents:These agents help in dealing with task execution and completion. They take care of proper request routing providing necessary steps in the workflow delegation.

Specialized Agents: These are self-driven agents capable of working with APIs for various platforms to fetch, process, and take actions with the data they retrieve.

With no structural changes to key core applications, the multi-agent structure allows implementation of AI driven work silos on top of the existing enterprise systems.

In turn, companies are prompted to open APIs, data and metadata to make AI friendly so that agents can interpret and act on the information in a real-time enterprise context.

Such evolution will undoubtedly change the user interface as we know it today, with AI agents handling tasks and processes, thereby changing the world of enterprise software and how users interact with it.
