India’s AI Leap Begins: Microsoft and Yotta Join Forces to Supercharge Shakti Cloud
New Delhi, May 28, 2025 — The partnership between Microsoft and Yotta Data Services will facilitate Azure AI capabilities on the Shakti Cloud, Yotta’s sovereign AI platform, in a landmark development that will catalyze India’s AI ambitions. The collaboration supports the IndiaAI Mission in creating a strong and secure hybrid AI ecosystem for Indian enterprises, developers, startups, and public sector organizations.
This IndiaAI Mission, led by MeitY, has already received over 500 proposals for the development of indigenous AI models. Currently, advanced AI models, agents, and development tools from Microsoft will be brought onto Yotta’s high-performance GPU infrastructure to enable real-time, low-latency AI applications in healthcare, agriculture, finance, manufacturing, education, and media.
Puneet Chandok, President, Microsoft India and South Asia, said, “Our partnership with Yotta to power Shakti Cloud will help unlock AI innovation at scale. Microsoft is honored to play its part in helping the country realize its AI ambitions through innovation that reflect India’s unique needs and priorities. India is already among the top global markets on AI adoption and return on investment. Together with Yotta, we will continue to help India become an AI-first nation, securely and responsibly.”
Together, by leveraging Microsoft’s foundational large language models and small language models atop Yotta’s AI compute stack, they would achieve performance, sovereignty, and compliance, enabling scalability and productivity powered by AI. Safety mechanisms, such as content filtering, groundedness detection, and IP enforcement, will also support the adoption of trustworthy AI.
Commenting on the partnership, Sunil Gupta, Co-founder, CEO & Managing Director, Yotta Data Services, said, “This partnership is a key step forward towards India’s AI self-reliance and digital transformation, and we are excited to be able to support Indian enterprises in their journey towards AI excellence with a full gamut of offerings. The combined strength of Microsoft’s services backed by Yotta’s infrastructure gives access to some of the best capabilities to support AI development in the country. It will make cutting-edge AI capabilities accessible for Indian enterprises of all sizes and give a huge boost to driving the nation’s AI ambitions.”
The collaboration aligns with Microsoft’s earlier pledge in January 2025 to support IndiaAI with AI Centres of Excellence and AI Productivity Labs. The joint effort aims to foster inclusive innovation while advancing India’s goal of becoming a global leader in AI. With this partnership, India takes a definitive step toward digital self-reliance, ushering in a new era of secure, scalable, and responsible AI innovation.
