Fujitsu Teams with Supermicro & Nidec for Liquid-Cooled, Eco-Friendly Data Centers
KAWASAKI , JAPAN, 17TH , 2025 — Fujitsu Limited has announced a strategic collaboration with Supermicro Inc. and Nidec Corporation to address rising energy demands in data centers through a next-generation liquid-cooling solution.
This joint effort will deliver significant improvements in Power Usage Effectiveness as well as reduce the impacts on the environment. Initial deployment is scheduled to take place at Fujitsu’s Tatebayashi Data Center.
This sudden escalation in workloads driven by AI around the globe has become a great contributor to high power consumption in a majority of data centers since GPUs need cooling.
Liquid cooling gives an alternative to air-based systems, but the latter absorbs high costs, which have limited its scope of application. The new initiative by Fujitsu works toward eliminating such barriers.
Fujitsu now offers liquid-cooling monitoring and control software developed from its expertise in mission-critical cooling systems. The platform will enable real-time monitoring of server operations and optimize equipment usage for up to 40 % less energy consumption than in air cooling.
Supermicro contributes to high-performance GPU servers engineered for liquid cooling, eliminating fan power consumption and reducing noise and thermal loads.
Nidec supplies precision-engineered Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs), powered by its trusted pump technology, further enhancing cooling efficiency.
The rollout will begin in Japan starting Q1 FY2025 with a subscription service for liquid cooling that would cover end-to-end services from planning to maintenance with low upfront costs.
Such initiatives are in line with Fujitsu’s pledge toward UN SDGs and its corporate mission toward a sustainable world through innovation.
