Ericsson Launches First Export-ready Made in India Antennas
Ericsson launched its first antenna manufactured in India for export around the world, marking an important milestone for Ericsson’s operations in India, and demonstrated the company’s serious commitment that India is an important place for manufacturing and innovation.
The launch was made at an event with special guest, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, the Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region. For commercial usage, the antenna will be available in June, and global exports will commence in July.
Ericsson is not only manufacturing antennas in India, but it is developing an entire local system, complete with local sources of materials, local manufacturing and local engineering. Ericsson’s plans began last year, and today we see more than 50% of parts for antennas, manufactured locally in India.
The next step in this will become growing local engineering teams to accommodate products for both local and international needs. These passive antennas are critical components to modern 5G networks, as they provide better speed, reliability, and energy efficiency.
Mikael Eriksson, Head of Ericsson Antenna System, said, “We are building a complete antenna ecosystem in India. It’s a long-term investment in people, tech and innovation. These antennas are vital for helping 5G networks grow across the globe.”
By boosting its engineering capacity in India, Ericsson can more closely collaborate with Indian R&D partners and local suppliers.
Nitin Bansal, Managing Director of Ericsson India, said “India is rapidly evolving into a global innovation and high-tech hub. With local engineering and production, we are strengthening India’s telecom infrastructure as well as our global supply chain.”
The antennas produced in India will have the same quality standards as Ericsson’s worldwide products, meaning that they can be used by both Indian telecom operators and global customers.
This development also demonstrates how India is growing to be an important player in global telecom manufacturing and technology, with companies like Ericsson assisting in this development.
