Ericsson was named one of Canada’s Top International Corporate Citizens by Corporate Knights for the third year in a row. This award is for companies who aren’t based in Canada but are doing great things in Canada, particularly in sustainability.

Corporate Knights evaluated over 100 companies across North America and scored the best, tangible impact-making companies. Ericsson has continuously impressed Corporate Knights, giving money to green technology and Canadian talent for years.

In 2023, Ericsson finished its largest investment into Canada: $635 million to advance research and development. This was part of a decades-long goal with the Canadian government to enhance Canadian leadership in 5G, AI, and cloud technology, and build energy efficient networks.

Jeanette Irekvist, head of Ericsson Canada, said they are proud of the recognition and that it highlights Ericsson’s commitment to the importance of Canada and sustainability.

Bhushan Joshi, who oversees sustainability for Ericsson in the Americas, said Ericsson is focused on reducing emissions and building stronger, smarter networks.

“From cutting emissions, to helping build more resilient networks, our teams and collaborating partners are making our aspirations a reality every single day,” he stated.

Ericsson’s sustainability rating included components like clean investment, energy efficiency, and diversity in leadership as well as partners in the Government of Canada’s Net Zero Challenge and  local universities that use AI to solve climate-related problems.

With over 70 years in Canada and R&D offices in Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto, Ericsson is one of the highest R&D investors in Canada with over $ 7 billion spent to date.
