Ericsson Expands ASIC R&D Operations in Bengaluru, India

Ericsson Boosts Bengaluru Team for ASIC Design

26th June 2025, India –  Ericsson today announced that it will expand its Research and Development (R&D) operations in Bengaluru with a special focus on Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) development. This move will help the company boost its semiconductor work and bring new energy to India’s tech landscape

The company said it plans to add over 150 new roles in Bengaluru to support this initiative. The city is one of the top tech hubs in India and known for its skilled professionals and strong innovation culture

Nitin Bansal who is the Managing Director for Ericsson India said the expansion will allow the company to better use India’s tech talent. “With more investment in ASIC R&D we will also help grow the semiconductor ecosystem in India,” he said

Anna Dicander, Vice President of Radio & Transport Engineering, said that Bengaluru is key to the company’s plans “We are focusing more on ASIC work to keep improving our Ericsson Silicon platform. That helps us launch faster and better products,” she added

Ericsson Silicon powers energy-efficient and high-performing products that are used in different types of mobile network setups. Its System on a Chip (SoC) solutions are used across Ericsson’s Radio System which includes basebands, radios, and transport tech.

This technology helps mobile operators get more out of 5G while keeping energy use optimized. It also supports the evolution to future-ready networks with advanced capabilities

Ericsson has been part of India’s telecom journey for more than 120 years. From starting GSM in 1994 to supporting 5G rollouts and now leading 6G research in India the company continue its commitment

The company recently started an India 6G Research Team in Chennai and operates R&D centers in Gurugram and Bengaluru as well

Globally Ericsson spends nearly $5 billion every year on R&D, which helps it keep leadership in mobile technology and next-gen solutions. In India its teams work on areas like cloud, OSS, BSS, AI and transport

This new expansion shows Ericsson plans to play a even bigger role in India’s digital growth in the years to come.
